Art & Design / Food: Food and Tools for Food at Hoet Bekaert Gallery

Throughout early March, Hoet Bekaert Gallery will present the work of late Belgian designer Maarten Van Severn in an exhibition that celebrates his Hybrid Cutlery collection.

With a minimalist approach to design, Van Severen combined modern production methods with ancient craft techniques and quality materials to create objects that were functionally ‘just’ and free from unnecessary elements, such as decoration.  His collection, Hybrid Cutlery perfectly exemplifies this pursuit of ‘perfection’, and sadly became his final project before his death in 2005.

The Food and Tools for Food exhibition will comprise sketches, 3D models alongside the inspiration behind the collection – food, its taste and the ritual of eating – as well as work from other ‘food inspired’, young artists, including Fien Muller, Kelly Schacht, Matthieu Ronsse, Hannes Van Severen and Joris van de Moortel
