Art & Design / Consumer: Plastic Recycling System by Future Industries

An inspiring solution for household waste in the home, Future Industries has created a mobile unit that enables its user to experience the entire process of recycling plastic – from waste to useable product.

The unit “lays bare the recycling process”, by shredding up said material and then moulding it into a useable shape, such as a bowl – after a quick trim, the object is safe and ready for use.

“We give power to the consumer and invite them to participate in the manufacturing process; providing an experience that is at once simple and meaningful,” explain the creative due, designer and entrepreneur Charlie Crook and Ben Atkinson-Willes.

Recycling is a process that is usually done on an industrial scale and therefore not always local, leaving a huge carbon footprint in itself.  Providing a sustainable alternative to this predicament – also enabling users to create and manufacture their own products for little cost and effort – the unit could additionally encourage households and communities to take the future, environmental well-being of local areas into their own hands.   We look forward to seeing more from this creative pair. – Samantha Fox
