Art Basel, which opened at the Miami Beach Convention Center on Thursday, is North America’s most influential and prestigious contemporary art show. The exhibit features both more established artists and influential up-and-comers in varied spaces throughout the city.
Events at the fair are diverse – on any given night, gallerists, artists and the public can find out of the ordinary spaces, like “The Island,” an islet in the Biscayne Bay, which has been turned into a public art piece. Artists like Terence Koh and Hanna Liden unveiled site-specific projects in the island’s beaches and foliage. While more typical exhibits showcase works from the likes of Louise Bourgeois and Marina Abramovic. At night, Miami explodes with parties as unique as the art shows, venues include the newly opened Soho House, the art deco Delano Hotel and pool parties across the city.
Art Basel runs until December 5th.
