Armani Privé

Armani Privé Couture Fall/Winter 2012

Paris: Though Giorgio Armani has outfitted the decidedly avant garde Lady Gaga, he has never turned his back on the classic looks that have garnered him a loyal clientele (and enormous commercial success). For his current couture outing, he reprised many of the items for which he is known – loose-fitting trousers, tailored collarless jackets – in luxurious materials, including velvet, organza and iridescent taffeta. Armani mainly stuck to his signature tones of black, navy, metallic and greige, but the pinks, magentas and vivid blues he introduces breathed life into the traditional looks. Highlights of the collection included boxy kimono-sleeved tops and a dupioni coat printed with what looked like an image of an aurora borealis. The final passage of evening gowns, mostly velvet dresses studded with glittering jewels, were elegant yet eye-catching, sure to grace red carpets soon. –Joanna Manganaro
