Aquascutum

NEW CLASSICS

London: Building on the success of S/S 12, Aquascutum creative director Joanna Sykes took a similar direction for Fall, with a minimalist take on traditional separates. Outerwear and jackets were a key element, with oversized and boxy silhouettes providing a more modern alternative to tailored hourglass and equestrian looks. Epaulets added a touch of military influence, as did a rich shade of olive green. Individual items — crisp white shirts, straight skirts and slim pants — were plain and simple, but a series of columnar sleeveless shift dresses made the greatest impact, especially one with hip-baring cutouts. Closing the show were a series of white and cream looks (reminiscent of last season) with monochrome piecing and panels of slick patent leather.  — Anna Jane Davis
