Formerly the chapel of a military hospital in Antwerp’s Groen Kwartier, the imposing building has been restored and repurposed as The Jane, the newest venture by Michelin-starred Sergio Herman and restaurateur Nick Bril. The restaurant offers both a fixed price and an à la Carte menu, as well as more informal dining options in the Upper Room Bar. However, don’t expect to be seated immediately; the wait list for dinner currently stands at three months long.

Design studio Piet Boon created the striking interior, featuring contemporary stained glass windows depicting traditional religious iconography, which juxtapose against sunflower, ice cream and penguin motifs. The design pièce de résistance is undoubtedly the restaurant’s central chandelier, measuring 12 meters wide and featuring some 150 light bulbs. -Emily Cater
