Antonio Berardi

SHAPING THE FUTURE
Milan: Antonio Berardi mastered a difficult merger of futurism and femininity for Pre-Fall, working cashmere and organza into gorgeously sculpted modern silhouettes reminiscent of Blade Runner’s groundbreaking costumes. Classic black and camel looked new infused with pops of safety orange, cherry and coral, especially when these bright touches peeked out from skirt linings or placket piping. Details like this were important throughout, from leather shoulder pads and fishtail hems to notch collars and knife pleats. But above all, the collection was about shape, with peplum skirt suits so solid they almost looked like armor, and pleated minis deftly reigned in by molded cocoon coats.—Nina Stotler
