THE SON OF MAN
New York: Before launching his namesake collection, Antonio Azzuolo was the design director behind Ralph Lauren’s Purple and Black Labels. His penchant for colorful twists on classics is evident for S/S 11 with playful layers of kelly green shorts, navy blazers, spectator shoes and letterman jackets. Bowler hats and suspenders hinted at the paintings of René Magritte, but it’s Azzuolo’s daring approach at reinventing tradition that is most inspirational. While styling may have leaned a bit too dandy-ish for many, must-haves like shorts suits, lightweight intarsia sweaters and utilitarian details make the collection a serious contender to watch.
