Antipodium S/S 2013

PERFECTION + MALFUNCTION
London: Australian designer Geoffrey J. Finch is behind the up-and-coming label Antipodium. For his current collection, Finch, like many other designers this season, was inspired by technology. He described his collection as an exploration of “perfection and malfunction.” Grid-like patterns and bits of shiny, lacquered leather gave items a futuristic touch. Classic pieces were slightly tweaked, representing the “malfunction” described in his inspiration; motorcycle jackets featured slashed arms, button-up shirts had extra-wide sleeves, and vests were backless. The unsettling combination of olive drab and caution orange felt off, but the cool neutrals and shiny silvers were a better bet. –Joanna Manganaro
