Paris: Belgian designer Anthony Vaccarello may be a newcomer on the Paris roster, but his sleek designs are exactly the type of edgy, grown-up fashion French editors seek. As such, the majority of F/W 12 was comprised of tailored satin suiting in a deep navy, including sharp shouldered blazers, slim button-ups and skinny trousers. Evening coats with military details and sophisticated blouson jackets furthered Vaccarello’s new masculine direction, before slashed hemlines and deconstructed asymmetry blew that notion apart. Daringly short corset minidresses, one-shoulder sheaths, wrapped skirts and lamé jumpsuits were Vaccarello’s aggressively body-conscious take on cocktail dressing, a series full of complicated constructions that seemed difficult despite their innovative creativity. —Nina Stotler
