Paris: Paris isn’t the easiest place for an up-and-coming designer to get his or her start. It’s tough sending out a collection next to the likes of Raf Simons, Rick Owens, or Karl Lagerfeld, but Anthony Vaccarello has held his own in the big leagues since his debut two years ago. Vaccarello was quickly embraced by fashion insiders from Anja Rubik to Giovanna Battaglia, and now music stars are catching on. Jennifer Lopez recently wore one of his skin-baring dresses to the Grammy Awards, and Kanye West was spotted in the front row at his show today. For fall, Vaccarello sent out looks that were more covered up than those of his previous collections. Mohair sweaters, tailored trousers, and leather button-up shirts were wearable, practical, and desirable. But the designer did not abandon the skin show altogether. He brought back the embellished skinny minis from previous seasons, and he included chainmail panels that added the unabashedly sexy element that has made his label such a hit. –Joanna Manganaro
