Milan: Unlike many designers this season, Izumi Ogino of Anteprima began her collection in dark tones, which gave the show a feeling of formality and seriousness. And indeed, there was little whimsy overall. The tailored items were unremarkable, and roomier pieces looked sloppy rather than slouchy. But, as always, the knits saved the day. Transparent knits are Ogino’s strength, and she presented several styles in the show, some with dot patterns or sequin embellishments. Chunkier, openwork varieties were used for skirts. It’s obvious that Ogino’s talent and interests lie in knits; next time, she would do well to make them a larger part of the collection and keep the wovens to a minimum. –Joanna Manganaro
