EXOTICISM FOR ROYALTY
Paris: Andrew Gn cited India, this season’s favorite destination, as a S/S 13 inspiration, but in contrast to many other collections his interpretation was stately and chic. Perhaps this was because Gn imagined his clothes outfitting Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II on her 1961 trip to Jaipur, creating blousy dohti trousers and prim fitted jackets fastened with pearl buttons. Subtle crystal embellishments littered silvery silk skirts and dresses, their glitter more royal than Bollywood, while a silhouetted Taj Mahal neckline further referenced the ruling class. Although luxury was certainly paramount for Gn, his sense of opulence had new life for Spring due to a creative use of color. In particular, high-end metallic duchesse satin pencil skirts in shades of copper paired with chartreuse silk cape tops were a welcome and directional addition to this sophisticated presentation.—Nina Stotler
