Aminaka Wilmont

London: Inspired by Cormac McCarthy’s post-apocalyptic epic, The Road, the design duo behind Aminaka Wilmont presented a dark and stormy collection that did not stray far from their trademark juxtaposition of soft and rigid forms. In a mostly grayscale palette, photocopier streaks, frantic scribbles and grungy geological textures brought dimension to the team’s signature body-wrapping jersey dresses, many dropping to the ankle lengths that are shaping up to be a key story for fall. Pieced asymmetrical leather jackets and skin-tight pants represented the structural and protective elements of the “urban warrior” archetype, all arranged in disheveled layers with knit tunics and shredded leather scarves. The inner elegance that characterizes the duo’s work did not suffer under the weight of the heavy theme, however, as softly-draped tops, crystal-scattered pencil skirts and ladylike sheaths provided an underlying sophistication to the collection.
