London: Although it would have been hard to guess from all the black leather and grungy printed swaths of fabric that wrapped the body, the duo behind Aminaka Wilmont was in a romantic mood for spring, aiming to capture the “dreamy”, fantastical side of nature. Upon close inspection, feathers, forest floors, clouds, cell formations and reptilian scales emerged from the grayscale range of digitized prints; the various motifs mixed in an unending collage that echoed the beautiful irregularities in nature. On a lighter note, gossamer butterflies adorned shoes and dresses, and dense photorealistic florals brought the collection out of any dreary depths. The brand’s signature draped, body-hugging dresses comprised the majority of the collection, but some of the strongest looks deviated from this formula – such as paper-bag waist shorts paired with a pearl- and spike-encrusted jacket. While not exactly upbeat, the designers managed to channel both the romantic and moody sides of nature into a collection that upheld their unique, edgy aesthetic.
