Ami Spring 2012 Paris

Paris: Ami designer Alexandre Mattiussi managed to create a formula for S/S 12 dressing that yields super-stylish ensembles without actually employing any directional or particularly forward items. Everyday garments, like simple trenches, button-fronts and blazers, were confidently styled to create sophisticated color palettes, and subtly shrunken silhouettes felt refined. Though young, Mattiussi is no fashion rookie, and his experience working for Dior Homme’s 30 Avenue Montaigne line, Marc Jacobs, and Givenchy is likely to thank for the presentation’s impressive execution. The designer is undoubtedly one to watch; Barneys, Mr Porter, Le Bon Marché, 10 Corso Como, and The Webster are all receiving shipments from Ami’s first collection next month. –Whitney Kessler
