New York: Recent winner of the Swarovski award for new talent from the CFDA, Joseph Altuzarra presented an ebullient and thoughtful collection that proved the accolade was well deserved. Altuzarra took his woman on a world tour this season, taking bits of inspiration from various regions – ikat prints from the Middle East, the red, yellow and green of the Jamaican flag, peasant tops from Eastern Europe, and the traditional trench coat from England. Altuzarra mixed these elements to create an offering that was playful yet sexy. Dresses hugged the contours of the body, with bustier details calling further attention to feminine curves. Peplums jutted out from the hips to create an exaggerated hourglass silhouette. The collection closed with a series of dresses and skirts featuring a cascading ruffle that ran down their fronts. The deftness with which this and other details were executed further proved that the CFDA chose wisely in awarding Altuzarra. –Joanna Manganaro
