New York: In just his fifth season, Joseph Altuzarra is still a newcomer, but his cohesive current collection demonstrated that he is finding his stride. Previous themes have been all over the map – from tribal influences to goth glamour to futuristic cone-busted femmes fatales – but the designer seemed to feel most comfortable with this season’s laid-back homage to grunge. Long layers, textured sweaters, slip dresses and mixed plaids and argyles conjured the seminal 90s movement, but luxe fur accents and intricate beading provided a glamorous update. Coats and outerwear were a high point, appearing in a range of styles including utilitarian parkas, chic furs and tough leathers, and are certain to be among the collection’s best sellers.
