The Active team stopped by EMS last week to check out the new Alite Pop-Up store. The highlight of the opening party was the collaboration between Alite and design driven cycling apparel company Outlier.
We are big fans of the contemporary execution of both the San Francisco-based Alite, and Brooklyn-based label, Outlier (remember when we featured them in our Cycling Capsule?!), so it was a really exciting for us to see the project in person. The result, a waxed canvas bag that functions as either at tote or book bag.
One of the bag’s coolest details, is the absence of “branding” on the outside. On the inside however, the bag has a pocket with the Alite and Outlier logos printed in a stark shade of white that pops against the bag’s olive canvas. The bag was inspired by cycling trips to a “mysterious” Brooklyn beach-destination. The bag is just big enough to carry the basics…a book, towel and a few beers, the only things needed for a truly successful bike bound excursion.
Alite’s Pop-Up store also displayed key pieces from its collection. Specifically a sleeping bag in a bright violet with blue lining, (which we first saw at Outdoor Retailer last summer) that’s designed to, well….um…un-zip between one’s legs for “various” activities inside and outside a tent. Use your imagination, no need to go into too much more detail here.
While at the soiree, a raffle was held for cool giveaways of Alite gear, Swayspace letterpress instructional booklets, and of course, one lucky individual won the featured Alite x Outlier bag. Pretty cool considering the bag isn’t on the market yet for purchase!
