WEAR YOUR HEART ON YOUR SLEEVE
New York: Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch is known for his quirky designs and bold prints, and both were evident in his offering for S/S 13. Herchcovitch spent his youth in the 80s and 90s partying in the nightclubs of his native Sao Paulo, and for Spring he paid tribute to the music and style of that era. To a Boy George soundtrack (“Karma Chameleon”) slouchy, tapered silhouettes dominated, from oval-shaped dresses to pegged pants and disco-ready jumpsuits. Checkerboard patterns, popular in the 80s, were a key motif, as was a giant heart-shaped appliqué that adorned many of the items — perhaps a metaphor for Herchcovitch putting his heart into this signature collection. —Deirdre Pérez
