New York: Globe-trotting Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch brought his collection to New York again this season after recently showing in Sao Paulo. With printed headscarves embellished with charmed chains, the looks had a freewheeling bohemian feeling. Herchcovitch’s signature metal studs were on everything from belts to collars to headpieces and also doubled as buttons, giving the clothes a kind of punk-gypsy edge, especially evident in a series of red plaid separates. Softer pieces included a purple texture-printed dress and laser-cut wool shorts with chiffon backing. Garments crocheted from metallic yarn and tops encrusted with coin-sized paillettes brought glitz and shine to the collection. Herchcovitch’s Brazilian flair is always a breath of fresh air in New York.
