Alexander Wang

SPORTY-TOUGH
New York:  This season, Alexander Wang took his downtown muse to the race tracks with an unexpectedly dark, sporty-tough collection inspired by NASCAR, BMX and motocross. A grouping of simple zip-up jackets in dark-hued laser-cut mesh opened the show with bright knits layered beneath and bottoms freshened by mesh pocket panels. Next, a washed-out, ombré tropical print followed in a series of nylon cargo jumpsuits and separates featuring ultra-baggy pockets, chunky plastic zippers and elastic drawstrings, which created a “must-have” peplum effect. Cropped motocross jacket were a more literal interpretation of the concept, and gave way to body-con sets in lightweight knit and laser-cut leather minidresses. Standing out in the sea of rough and tough, were an undeniably pretty trio of light-as-air, sheer-paneled sweaters featuring a color-blocked intarsia design based on stadium seating charts. The accessories—oversized leather packs and 90s-style pointy toe heels—were clean and simple, and will surely please the loyal Wang fans.  —Anna Jane Davis
