New York: Alexander Wang’s label is in high gear this year; the designer just won a CFDA award for his accessories, is opening new store in Beijing and debuted his swim collection along with the current Resort looks. The swimwear was styled under active-inspired looks that took fall’s sporty concept to the next level. Pieced windbreakers, track shorts and scuba-ready one-piece swimsuits were literal interpretations of activewear, while pants with ergonomic silk panels and elasticized cuffs and color blocked skirts adapted the look in a more wearable way. Angular silhouettes and slick surfaces captured the edge that Wang’s followers expect. The streetwise collection was a confident statement, and that confidence is certainly justified; with the CFDA award and the new store, it seems right now that Alexander Wang is on top of the world. –Joanna Manganaro
