Alexander McQueen LFW AW16: Surreal romanticism
By Lizzy Bowring

WGSN Head of Catwalks Lizzy Bowring shares her review of the collection and highlights the key items

Feb 22, 2016

LONDON: Sarah Burton described her woman as: “Almost sleepwalking, in a state where reality and dreams become blurred,” at the beginning of what transpired to be the most exquisite vision of ethereal silhouettes seen thus far for A/W 2016. The spell was cast from the first handcrafted leather coat embellished and handpainted with surreal motifs such as pocket watches, lips, and butterflies to ruffles cascading over and around décolletés and sylph-like sheer silk and knit dresses.  From there to the boudoir, with a majestic light pink eiderdown coat, lined with marabou and covered with embroidered phases of the moon and stars. “That one started life as an antique piece we found on Portobello market,” the designer commented. Breathtaking. This was the stuff that dreams are made of. – Lizzy Bowring
