New York: Having recently designed the royal wedding gown and been involved in the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition at the Met, Sarah Burton has been firmly in the spotlight over the last few months. The designer’s remarkable poise in the face of daunting demands also extends to her work on the McQueen collections. Titled “Romantic Utility”, her Resort line calls to mind a strong Englishwoman in the midst of a war in some far-flung exotic locale. Military elements – sharp tailoring, epaulets, flap pockets, olive drab and khaki – were mixed with ethnic crafts – gold embroidery, beading – for looks that referenced both worlds. With yet another confident collection under her belt and a famous wedding dress to her credit, Sarah Burton seems unstoppable this year. –Joanna Manganaro
