Trackosaurus Rex – our daily source for fixed gear enlightenment – provided us with a gem this morning. Tokyo fixed gear is opening a new shop in the UK, which will carry bikes, accessories and clothing. They will be stocking a new Japanese brand called Aldies. Not technically cycling apparel, a little too crunchy to be called traditional streetwear…. Aldies walks the line between geek and gear.
Aldies caught our eye because it is a mix between the Native American trend that is influencing a wide range of brands – including Vans and New Balance – and the Global Nomad movement that is starting to gain momentum. The trims and embellishments have a folkloric undertone, highlighted by pigmented colors in rich hues. Webbings, climbing ropes and woven straps are super interesting to work with, especially when taken out of context and used on outerwear or hardgoods.
Check out or new Outdoor Capsule that touches on some of these design influences, as well as the Southwestern Union Trend Tracker that is in the works!
