Milan: In the same vein as Gucci designer Frida Giannini, Alberta Ferretti sent out glamorous looks in rich jewel tones. The new attitude was a major departure for the designer, who is best known for diaphanous dresses and delicate separates. Sequins, lamé and over-the-knee velvet boots connected with the disco era – a key reference last season – but boxy shifts, narrow-shoulders and playful prints coats were in keeping with this season’s emerging Mod influence. Ferretti closed the show with an assortment of her signature romantic frocks, perhaps a concession to her loyal clientele, but the real story was her venture into clean-lined sportswear. Though it felt somewhat out of character, the new direction was in keeping with current trends and showed an unexplored side of Ferretti’s character.
