Alberta Ferretti

Milan: For fall Alberta Ferretti focused on what she does best — frocks for around the clock, from cocktail hour to formal evening soirees. Statuesque dresses were fashioned out of tissue-weight chiffon and liquid charmeuse in gossamer washes of cosmetic tones, carried over from spring. Soft fabric piecing and Grecian pleats hugged the bodice, flaring to the knee or sweeping the floor in a swirl of godets. Crystals were tastefully strewn across the neckline and sleeves, while pleated ribbon and allover ostrich presented edgier ornamentation. No wintertime gown would be complete without an equally fancy overcoat, and Ferretti’s offerings included an emerald pony hair cape and a fur-trimmed princess coat in snow white. Although it did not possess the emotional range of spring’s offering, the collection delivered plenty of pretty picks that should look just right next to a certain golden statuette.
