Paris: Akris toed the line between abstract and artistic this season, maintaining the label’s signature minimalism while dipping into cubist patterns and tonal color combinations. Forest green, plum and tan were refreshing breaks from basic black, and designer Albert Kriemler kept his prints low-key but effective; abstract squares for a matched set, tonal stripes for a relaxed lemon-hued pantsuit. Patchwork daytime shirt dresses were wearable and casual with practical pockets, while vests and cropped jackets with leather sleeves provided structural contrast to fluid trousers. For evening Kriemler looked to sheer textures, and monochrome paillette-encrusted suiting was an interesting alternative to more overtly sexy chiffon mini-dresses.—Nina Stotler
