The dramatic images from the recent exhibition of master hat Japanese milliner Akio Hirata, curated by directional branding agency Nendo are a great example of the recent flurry of hat showcases that we have been seeing internationally.
The suspended “ghost hats”, interspersed with a number of examples of Hirata’s work, spanning 70 years, are the perfect expression of the importance and striking influence that the hat maker has had on the industry, and forms the climax of the retrospective, currently on show at the Spiral Garden in Tokyo.
