After recently being profiled in an interesting NY Times article on “The New Antiquarians,” artisan Ryan Matthew has opened a beautifully dark store in Manhattan with strong Victorian influences. Named Against Nature, the small space sells a highly edited collection of accessories, tailored clothing and denim. The real standout character in this dreamy drama, though, are the props that Matthew painstakingly found at flea markets, including albino peacocks, an old apothecary, animal skulls and vintage wardrobes. Bespoke services are also offered in addition to the ready-to-wear suits by Doyle Mueser.
