BOLD MINIMALISM
New York: Hanako Maeda’s inspiration for her Cruise/Resort collection came from the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi, which, summarized means “perfection and symmetry versus irregularity.” This was evident in her approach to the cuts, slashes, insets and layering in each silhouette. For instance, a structured black skirt featured pleated chiffon side panels and fitted shifts came with asymmetrical cutout overlays. There were some interesting and covetable pieces in this lineup. – Lizzy Bowring
