Paris: Although the Adam Kimmel S/S 2011 show took place in Paris, the designer described the collection’s Snoop Dogg-inspired looks as being more “Compton via Italy.” Kimmel mixed fine tailoring and quality textiles with all-American activewear items like football jerseys, bomber jackets, baseball hats, sneakers, and hoodies. Snoop Dogg’s sporty-luxe look from the 1990s translated surprisingly well for menswear today and several elements of the rapper’s style were consistent with trends that have been gaining momentum for several seasons. Jackets with contrast sleeves, a bandana print (that appeared on cuffs and collars), wingtip spectator shoes, and panama hats were just some of Snoop Dogg’s signature items that were successfully reinterpreted. The pairing of conservative with casual was also compatible with current styling tastes, and although some of the get-ups verged on the comical, many were realistic and appealing.
