Alexander Wang’s S/S12 collection is most accurately in sync with the Rebel mood previously predicted in our Spring/Summer 12 Active Forecast.
With a strong focus on speed and aerodynamics, the streamlined silhouettes in Alexander Wang’s line display the sleekness of MOTOCROSS and NASCAR influenced design details.
Off the racetracks, color-blocked stripes mimicking stadium seating charts and mini checkered black-and-white squares (similar to the NASCAR flag) are printed on bodysuits, mesh windbreakers, and leather jerseys.
Black-and-white botanical prints offset the harsh graphic elements in nylon peplum jackets and Bermuda shorts. Helmets in hand and leather bandannas worn at the neck tie-up Wang’s take on the rebellious look.
With an aggressive execution, the pieces are spiked with hardware, mesh inserts, exaggerated pockets, and a new hue that Wang has named “Emergency Orange. So get your engines ready, Active has one again influenced the runway this season. – Lauren Alyse Runsick
