New York: Continuing on from the Spring Military influences that pervaded last season’s collections, Altuzarra’s Pre-Fall presentation continued on in the same vein. Inspiration was drawn from traditional British uniforms with a nod to classic scenes of country living and pursuits – hunting and hiking high on the agenda. The main focus was to build a complete wardrobe that was “functional, versatile and polished”. Take for instance a Loden green waxed cotton jacket, shrunken and nipped at the waist and cleverly paired with a pencil skirt, or the long, lean jumpsuit with a contrasting corduroy collar; even a quilted jacket was reworked, and fully lined in white Mongolian lamb. This clever fusion of utility and luxury extended into the classic British houndstooth pattern, woven in bright colorful hues while the colors and textures were exemplified in three interpretations of leopard prints. Everything was quintessentially British, save for the added sensual twist and play of sexiness that we have come to expect from Altuzarra. – Lizzy Bowring
