Paris: Alexander Wang presented his Spring/Summer collection for Balenciaga with an athletic aesthetic in mind. Wang happened to be in Paris during the Tour de France and there was no question that the cyclists’ second-skin performance-wear influenced this dynamic lineup. Amid swirling vapors of smoke, models swept down the catwalk – sweeping maxi trapeze duster coats were layered over snug fitting dresses and brief shorts – the silhouettes cut lean and athletic. However, the touch of embroidery elevated the look – tonal and geometric lines were created in dramatic pieces – a black jersey tee with jet beading and ribbon or the net dress with seed and bugle beads emulating the diamond tile floor of Cristóbal’s atelier. Speedy, sexy, streamlined and very new. – Lizzy Bowring
