Paris: Alexander Wang presented his Spring/Summer collection for Balenciaga with an athletic aesthetic in mind. Wang happened to be in Paris during the Tour de France and there was no question that the cyclists’ second-skin performance-wear influenced this dynamic lineup. Amid swirling vapors of smoke, models swept down the catwalk – sweeping maxi trapeze duster coats were layered over snug fitting dresses and brief shorts – the silhouettes cut lean and athletic. However, the touch of embroidery elevated the look – tonal and geometric lines were created in dramatic pieces – a black jersey tee with jet beading and ribbon or the net dress with seed and bugle beads emulating the diamond tile floor of Cristóbal’s atelier.
