Raf Simons has the uncanny ability of siphoning inspiration from the least expected sources and making it completely his own. His latest F/W 09 collection, inspired by mid-century French ceramicist Pol Chambost, was a perfect example of appropriating the essence of a design in order to bring it forward into a contemporary context. Mimicking the curvilinear forms and 2-toned colorplay of Chambost’s vessels, he created a collection that while minimal and restrained contained the fearless energy of experimentation. Reconstruction of simple silhouettes into organically molded forms illuminates the hidden level of contrasted linings.
