We have to admit, the Active Team loves to see product from our world of sport repurposed. (After all, the Outdoor market as a whole is THE leader in setting the benchmark of ethical standards in creating goods.) Even better than reused in its original purpose, is finding an entirely new life for a product. Luckily, we have found a great round up of innovative brands that are breathing fresh life into a variety of traditional active pieces. And of course….we’re going to share:
First up, Coach released a fantastic collection repurposing old Baseball mitts into wallets. With only 200 made, they are a covetable item, each handmade from approximately 1.5 baseball mitts per wallet, and all individually unique.
Artist Carolina Fontoura has taken bicycle chains and made them into luxe chandeliers that have a sophisticated, yet incredibly raw appeal. When her work is hanging in a space, it breathes a warmth and industrial appeal at the same time.
Coming from one of our favorite industries, Lindsay Jo Holmes is a skate enthusiast who has found a new life for all of those beat up and broken skateboards. Making them into jewelry, iPhone cases and other accessories, Maple XO has found a niche in the market.
Seeing what these designers can do gets us excited about what else can be thought up, and just proves that recycled can be just as good, if not better than new.
