New York: As a former celebrity stylist, Andrea Lieberman knows how to put an outfit together, and she also knows the importance of great basics and layering pieces. For her label A.L.C.’s Pre-Fall collection, the designer offered a range of approachable items that could easily be incorporated into her hip clients’ wardrobes. There were more expected items, such as skinny pants, skater skirts, and trench coats, but Lieberman pushed the envelope with tops and dresses featuring transparent panels and boxy tops with winged sleeves. A vintage-inspired floral print added charm. The layering techniques displayed (example: V-neck sweater over silky bow blouse with leather slim skirt, all worn under camel trench) show she is in touch with the way real women wear her clothes. In an interview, Lieberman told a reporter that she had “a renewed focus on the business side of things,” and these retail-friendly pieces show that this wasn’t just talk. –Joanna Manganaro
