Paris: As a tribute to Rochas’ 90th birthday, Alessandro Dell’Acqua honoured the heritage of the brand, reviving and reworking the designs of the late Marcel Rochas. Dell’Acqua’s modern-day tribute referenced the 1934 Rochas’collection- dedicated to birds- inspiring ornithological prints and thirties silhouettes. Swallows patterned romantic silk dresses and featured as black velvet embroidery on an ice blue overcoat and a series of utility dresses and separates. Piecrust ruffles lined the bodices of pinafore dresses and tops adding a retro-whimsy mood, whilst Chantilly lace and feather trims were used in a playful fusion of old Rochas and new. Despite the undertone being of bygone eras, Dell’Acqua avoided the vintage-trap with modern detailing. Sleeveless midi dresses came in tweed and patched and pieced embroidery – lending a “make do and mend” motto, modernised by the welcome addition of a wide waist-cinching belt. Refined and feminine – a true tribute to Rochas at it’s best. –Anna Ross
