London: Markus Lupfer presented his whimsical new autumn collection, and took you on a walk into a secret garden, albeit off Pall Mall, with models holding real fluffy baby bunny-rabbits, set amongst wild flowers and a fairytale woodland scene. As is true with fairytales the sugary sweet mixed with darker undercurrents in luxe materials and opulent tones. This was a girl dressed for comfort, but seeking adventure in holographic jacquards, gold camouflages, jacquard riffs and a repeating strawberry motifs print, a hint of forbidden fruit, or sinister oversized foliage. Imagine a Brothers Grimm tale with Alexa Chung as the heroine. Outwear mixed camouflage with the enchanted forest. Knitwear, his bestselling signature, took centre stage in new cashmere jacquards, hand-jewelled bobble hats and his preppy parkas and urban fairies were styled with glitter dipped trainers. Print was bold, colour was rich yet shapes were clean cut and edgy. Here function ruled over whimsy in a collection where sporty went preppy with added sparkle for adventure. – Camilla Morton
