Fighting through the New York heat, these fashion editors and models offer an important lesson in how to manage the hot temperatures in style. With weather-appropriate accessories (cue summer hats, and tinted sunglasses) they rock the sidewalk with ease. But it’s the head to toe looks inspiring us.
Summer brights, light pastels and florals come into their own on the streets of New York reflecting what we’re also seeing in the current S/S17 runway shows. It’s about ditching black and full overcoats for a lighter, brighter look (that’s the added joy of these shows being in late summer, a complete contrast to the February NYFW shows). Channel these looks by embracing denim (look to Gucci and Vetements) for inspiration. Go wild with prints and sheer fabrics for subtle sexiness with the last of the summer heat and rock bold colour ways, think bright yellows and burnt orange.
Accessories are key, the choker has never been so popular, while vibrant purses and wallets can transform an outfit. Also, bare shoulders are back, influenced by the rise of the off-the-shoulder top which we profiled as a key item this season. The off-the-shoulder top works for both day and night or to take these editors from early morning shows to catwalk after-parties. Embrace mules as footwear, they are perfect for this time of year, as we proved with INstock data, they are a sell-out this season. Or if a low heel isn’t your thing, make like these editors who are putting comfort and style together by rocking sneakers.
