The Active Team has spotted more sneakers on the runway this season than ever before. Not one single city missed out on highlighting trainers as a key accessory…so what better timing now it seems, for the opening of a new exhibit in London based around this very topic: Sneakers in Fashion.
Major UK retailer javari opened a free exhibition last week titled “Sneaking into Fashion” in London’s Covent Garden Piazza that will be on display through October 28th. Stylesight was on hand to check out the exhibition – tracking the trajectory that sneakers have taken through popular culture:
“In revealing this technological, cultural and aesthetic journey, the exhibition explores the trainer’s relationship between sports, popular culture, art, design and fashion. The exhibition looks at the symbolic relationship between the trainer and popular culture and presents revolutionary examples of craftsmanship. It is hard to imagine life without the abundant choice of pumps, cushioning, materials, colour-ways and laces. The trainer has many uses and guises. With wearers from school children to sporting legends to musicians to catwalk models, the trainer captures the zeitgeist.”

Stop by the exhibition before the end of the month to see rare pairs of sneakers from the past, innovative conceptual pairs, and new forays into the fashion realm.
