As the last show to close out the fashion week season [the latest fashion cycle notwithstanding], Miu Miu is, generally speaking, a tried and true arbiter of what lies ahead on the fashion horizon. And if Miuccia’s uncanny knack for being a few steps ahead of the zeitgeist rings true yet again this season, the streets will be awash in 40s floral print dresses, broad-shouldered tailoring, and witty variations on peep-toe sandals come fall. In fact, Miu Miu seems to have switched places with her [usually] prim and proper older sister Prada, whose runways were filled with funky textures, youthquake references and futuristic-à-la-1964-accessories in a collection filled with standout pieces but lacking in cohesion. With 40s references and accessories of the era encroaching upon runways for a few seasons now, the buzz is building and Miu Miu is at the helm, as usual.
Below, an inspirational romp through the 1940s à la Miu Miu F/W 11….
