London’s a hotbed for new and emerging talent and widely tipped as being one of the schedules most eclectic cities. Our Catwalk Team’s Anna Ross gives us the low down on the who’s-who of new names at London Fashion Week.
Who? Now in his third season at LFW, CSM grad Richard Malone has been making waves on the scene with nominations for the LVMH Prize and named as one of the BBC’s Best Young Artist’s under 25.
The Look: Sculptural. Malone’s cocooning and twisted creations are becoming his signature. Directional, sure – every piece is a work of art. Expect psychedelic prints and experimental textiles.
Who’s a fan? Richard’s creations make for perfect editorial “wow-pieces” – LOVE, Dazed, Interview, AnOther, Vogue Italia, Vogue India, British Vogue, WWD have all featured Malone’s work.
When? Richard opens London Fashion Week on Friday 15th September
Who? Richard Halpern. We flagged him as a One to Watch after his CSM MA show last year. Having previously worked at Oscar de La Renta, Richard is now part of the Atelier Versace team consulting for the couture collections all the while designing for his namesake brand, Halpern. Busy.
The Look: Unabashed glamour. Think multi-colored, all-sequined jumpsuits, flared trousers, corseted bustiers, and big cascading satin trains. Go bold or go home.
Who’s a fan? Street style star, Tamu McPherson, Donatella Versace – of course, oh- and Beyoncé – no biggy.
When? Saturday 16th, London
Who? Born in China before moving to London to study, Wang’s love for tailoring and edgy yet ethereal womenswear is gaining him a loyal fanbase amongst fashion circles.
The Look: Avant Garde, modernist and impeccably tailored with just enough of that gritty London edge. Wang’s clothes have a gender fluid appeal with innovative fabrics and hardware detailing. A master of presentation, Wang’s beautifully curated shows are not to be missed.
Who’s a fan? Wang’s designs have been seen on everyone from Rita Ora to Lorde.
When? Friday 15th, expect a seriously cool crowd.
