3 Key Street-Style Trends at NYFW

NY Fashion Week started off the SS18 season in style, with inspiring looks both on and off the runway. WGSN’s  Anna Ross brings you 3 key trends on the street.

Pastel Pops

Sweet, sugary pastels were the color du jour on the streets; what was interesting was seeing how New Yorkers fearlessly mixed and matched hues of baby pink, lilac, lime cream and yellow into one chic look. Don’t want to wear it head to toe? Try adding a color-popping accessory to get the look. Insider tip – Summer ’18 is spelling lilac, with a capital L.

The New Cat Eye

I hear what you’re saying, the cat-eye has been around a while now –  but the newness lies in the silhouette – more sci-fi less Salem  (yes, that is a Sabrina the Teenage Witch reference.) Take note of the frameless direction and mirrored lens for an extra edgy look which will snazz-up any outfit.

Boyish Tailoring

If you’re going to invest in one piece this winter, make it tailored. My money’s on a boxy-shoulder jacket, seen ALL over the AW17/18 Runways and show no sign of slowing for Spring. The trend for genderless dressing (and a fairly big push from Demna at  Vetements) has pushed this trend into the mainstream. If a full-on suit’s a bit much, try dressing a tailored blazer down with jeans and a tee, or with a dress a la Man Repeller, Leandra Medine.

Stay tuned throughout Fashion Week as I’ll be bringing you more Street Style pointers! – Anna Ross
