Earlier this week, New York’s street ready runway designer Phillip Lim launched his debut denim capsule collection of sleek indigo goodness.

Over the past several seasons the denim market has undergone somewhat of a renaissance to give the fabric a new polished identity. Kick-started by the clean and minimalist aesthetic introduced by runway designers such as Stella McCartney, Celine and Derek Lam as long ago as S/S 11, this understated approach to denim styling has opened denim up into a high-end market. Today designers like Chanel, Valentino and Tommy Hilfiger as well as a slew of other international designers are injecting denim with a sleek edge. And it’s not just the designers who are loving it, over at Style.com they’ve been celebrating denim week, where we found out about this new capsule collection from New York’s young designer, Phillip Lim.

Lim’s tight 12 piece collection of raw indigo pieces features 12 styles for a modern wardrobe, like classic trench coats, his famous motorcycle jacket, a chic blazer and tailored pants. The collection is designed to blend in with your everyday wardrobe, with the dark shades adding a polished finished alongside any woman’s basics.

And he’s a longtime fan of the material. “I have always used denim in the collections—it is really intrinsic to the way we dress. Everyone can relate to denim, so I wanted to refashion it for our lifestyle,” the designer told Style.com when asked about the lineup. “I wanted the cut to be considered, the finish and the details to be thought-out, but most important, to make it appropriate. I like the crispness of the raw denim and how in the right use it can almost take on a whole new purpose. There is something incredibly rich and classic about the deep blue hue of raw denim, too—it’s as classic as black or navy.”
