New York: Danny Lyon’s The Bikeriders – a 1968 photography book chronicling the lives of Harley-riding bad boys and the women who loved them – provided inspiration for Phillip Lim’s Pre-Fall collection. Eagle graphics that recalled the famous Harley symbol appeared on embellished tees and slouchy sweatshirts, and spikes alternated with jewels on decorated collars. A biker-inspired collection wouldn’t be complete without a good motorcycle jacket, and Lim’s versions did not disappoint. Though the influences were apparent, the biker theme wasn’t overly emphasized. There were plenty of covetable separates, including slim pants, kicky skirts, and woven tees. It was a rather epic offering, with 45 looks when most designers send out around 20, and it could have been edited down. But all of the pieces were solid, with just enough of a rebellious touch to make them intensely appealing. –Joanna Manganaro
