New York: Phillip Lim always finds the perfect merger of fashion and function, from his beloved bags to his coveted outerwear. For Pre-Fall, the designer introduced an added element of kitschy fun, mixing graphic pop-art knits with his typically versatile tapered trousers, boxy tweed jackets and reversible quilted coats. These playful tops were also among the brightest pieces in the collection, punctuating a mostly somber palette of stone, black and white, and complementing a progressive mustard yellow. As usual, multi-functional details were key for Lim, as he focused on jackets that zip apart, layerable embellished sheer pajama pants and bags sizeable enough to transition from day to night; an impressively engineered “choose your own adventure” of modern fashion.—Nina Stotler
