Miu Miu to open Venice Film Festival

This year will see Miu Miu open the Venice Film Festival with a short film, the fourth in its Women's Tales film series, reported Vogue UK.

The film features Gemma Anderson, Patricia Clarkson, Rinko Kikuchi and Aubrey Plaza and is called It's Getting Late. It will be screened on the Lido together with the previous three parts of the series, which supports female filmmakers.

All the films' directors are young females.

Germany's adidas eyes double-digit sales growth in China

German sportswear giant adidas is aiming for double-digit growth in annual sales in China through 2015.

The company hopes to open 500 new stores in China by the end of 2012, primarily in lower-tier cities, said Shanghai Daily. These will be in addition to the more than 7,000 retail outlets already serving customers in 900 cities, according to the group's Route 2015 China Strategy released yesterday.

The growth targets will be mainly driven by expanding and solidifying its distribution footprint in a wider area in the country.

The group has also unveiled its new China headquarters on downtown Huaihai Road in Shanghai.

Stella McCartney opens first freestanding Shanghai store

British fashion brand Stella McCartney has taken control of its Chinese business and opened its first freestanding boutique in Shanghai. The new store is located in Nanjing Road in the Reel Mall, reported Women's Wear Daily.

It measures 1,195 sqft. and features the label's current store design concept.

Stella McCartney is expanding in China and will also open a kids' shop-in-shop and lingerie corner at the Reel Mall in October, followed by a Beijing store in December and another Shanghai store next Spring. The label recently took its China distribution in-house.

"As our brand is pursuing extension into Asia it is now time to take our business and presence in China further into the next step of growth by developing a local strategy focused on retail expansion and increased distribution," said Frederick Lukoff, CEO of Stella McCartney.

China's Zuoan Fashion Limited reports 45% rise in Q2 net income

Zuoan Fashion Limited, a design-driven fashion casual menswear company in China, said revenue for the second quarter was RMB301.6m, or $47.5m, a 26.0% increase from RMB239.3m, or $37.7m,  in the same period last year. The increase in revenue was driven by both distributor and direct store sales volume.

Second quarter distributor sales increased 14.5% to RMB271.2m compared to RMB237.0m in the second quarter of 2011. Second quarter 2012 self-operated direct store and flagship store sales were RMB 30.3m.

A net total of 30 distributor and sub-distributor stores, 2 direct stores and 4 Company self-operated flagship stores were opened in the second quarter of 2012, resulting in a total of 1,331 store locations at the end of June 30, 2012 compared to 1,295 store locations at the end of March 2012.

Net income for the second quarter increased 45.3% to RMB66.2m ($10.4m) from RMB45.6m ($7.2m) in the same period last year. Second quarter net income as a percentage of revenue was 22.0% compared to 19.0% in the prior year period.

Sweden's H&M to enter South America

Swedish fashion giant H&M is set to open its first store in South America. The store will open in Santiago de Chile in the first half year of 2013. It will be located at shopping mall Costanera Center.

"We are very excited to announce the opening of the first H&M store in South America, in Santiago de Chile, Chile. It is our first step into the Southern hemisphere, and we see great potential for further expansion in this fashion conscious region. We look forward to bringing fashion and quality at the best price to the Chilean customers," said Karl-Johan Persson, CEO at H&M.

UK's Belstaff to debut at New York Fashion Week

British luxury brand Belstaff will show in New York for the first time this season. The show will take place on September 10 at IAC, reported Women's Wear Daily.

Belstaff is also opening its first US store the same week on Madison Avenue. The brand has also hired former Giorgio Armani Senior VP Fiorenzo Schincaglia as its President and Commercial Director for Europe, Middle East, and Asia, and tapped Jeff Lasota from Stella McCartney to oversee wholesale and retail as President of US sales.

Rudi Gernreich label to relaunch

American fashion designer Rudi Gernreich's label is set to relaunch, more than 25 years after his death. The designer was known for his unisex jumpsuits, prints and topless swimsuit in the 1960's, reported Women's Wear Daily.

Sources say worldwide trademark rights for the brand have been acquired and those behind the project hope to have a collection on the runway in 2014. It is not known who the financial backer is but he is described as a German entrepreneur. The venture will operate under the trademark name Gernreich.
